Bixby: Smart Assistant for Samsung Devices

Smart assistants are starting to make the leap from phones to other devices, although some features still need to be refined and improved. Extending this to other internal “devices” will a priori give us the consistency we need, which this time will lead to mass adoption in practice. And it is clear that language plays an important role in evolution.

Here we are going to explain information about Bixby.

What is Bixby?

It is a virtual assistant from Samsung that you can ask any question to. With it you can send messages, ask questions about the weather, make calls, listen to news, etc.

To achieve this, you can learn more about what the camera sees and use it to. This app can learn individual voices and respond in a personalized way to the person making the request. Samsung says it will “learn, evolve and adapt” for you.

Since launch, the button has been removed, the long-awaited Galaxy Home Bixby speaker is gone, and some features have been removed, such as Uber support.

Recently, Samsung Electronics approached Google with the launch of the Galaxy S21 family in 2021 and suggested that it could end some services in the future by offering features like Google Discover on the home screen.

How to use?

In some Galaxy series, a button appears on the left side below the volume control. Some of these series are Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, S10e, S9, S9 Plus, among others.

When you press them, the wizard will appear on the screen to start using it. If you don’t own any device from any of these series, don’t worry. The wizard remains easy to use. When you press and hold the home button, Bixby appears.

Adjust settings

Bixby is more than an app. The Galaxy 20, Galaxy S10, and S10 Plus have three Samsung Assistant features: Bixby Home, Bixby Vision, and Bixby Voice. This is a preference, but it means everyone has their own settings. Then you must access the flash card settings.

By clicking the Settings button in the same menu, you can change the email address associated with Bixby Home and change content services, in particular sending location data to the app to provide personalized and useful data.

This feature is currently limited to Uber and Fourspace, so you can see how long it takes to find an Uber no matter where you are. Bixby Voice has several settings.

You can access it by pressing the Bixby key or holding the home button on your Note 10. Select the three vertical dots and you’ll find a variety of options, including tutorials, shortcuts, and settings.

Settings let you change everything from the voice type to whether it works when the phone is locked. Shortcuts allow you to link actions and phrases.

For example, you can set Bixby to turn off all the lights and sound an alarm when you say “I’m going to bed.” It also includes options to change how the Bixby button is used.

If you don’t like this wizard and don’t want to use it, you can use this button in another way. It used to be possible to disable the Bixby key, but Android 9.0 Pie’s One UI update removed that workaround, forcing Bixby haters to double-click the key and let Samsung’s AI take control.

What can Bixby do?

One of Bixby’s main goals is to manage increasingly complex devices.

Here are some examples of what Bixby does:

  • Say “Show me on my TV” to mirror your phone’s screen to a compatible device like a Samsung or Roku TV.

  • To save a screenshot as your phone’s wallpaper, say “Use this as wallpaper.”

  • Say “Take a selfie and share it on Facebook” to do the same on your device.

  • To save a notification, say “Remind me to take medicine at 3 pm.”

  • To open the Messages app, say “Open Messages.”

  • Enable HDR by saying “Enable HDR” in the camera app.

  • To use these commands, you must press the Bixby button or say wakeup call.

All of this fits and falls within the goals that Samsung originally set for Bixby. For example, you can easily request to change the volume or increase the brightness of the phone.

Overall, Bixby is great for controlling the device, including composing messages and reading incoming messages. Bixby can also connect with apps like SmartThings to control your smart home with your voice. You’ll need to set everything up in SmartThings. Bixby can then provide voice instructions to that app.

Bixby Voice

Bixby Voice is similar to Siri, but has many other features. In fact, if you rape in Korean, you can insult Siri. Not only that, it is designed to adapt to the way someone speaks. According to Samsung, the Assistant can understand all the options with a single command.

After installing the software you can activate it by saying ”Hello Bixby” or by pressing the button. The voice assistant works in apps like the dialer, settings menu, camera app, contact list, and gallery on the Galaxy S10.

This app can also perform complex tasks like opening split-screen apps, scrolling through misaligned photos, remembering where you parked, playing a video on a nearby TV, and even writing an email.

Manual operation is also possible using Bixby. For example, if you’re using a standard Samsung app, you can ask to “read recent messages” such as emails or text messages. In other words, Bixby makes it easy to perform the most basic tasks using your voice. This functionality can also be customized.

You can quickly change the gender of the assistant and support shortcuts, such as shortening frequently used long commands to a single word or sentence. According to Samsung, this assistant can handle more than 3,000 commands, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Uber, Gmail, Google Maps, and more.

Supports some commands for your application. The company is constantly improving the app and adding support for third-party apps and other commands.

Bixby Home

Samsung calls Bixby Home a “social streamer for your device,” and that’s true. A similar interface with notification cards, contextual information and social network updates.

It’s like a cross between Google Now and HTC BlinkFeed. You can change or pin a map by tapping the two lines in the top right corner of an individual Bixby home map.

To delete a card, swipe right to temporarily hide it, permanently delete it, or close it. Samsung’s default app provides most of the Bixby Home content. You can view local weather forecasts, activity statistics from the Samsung Health app, and local files from the phone’s music app.

If you have connected Google Calendar and Gmail services to your Samsung device, you can recover data from these services.
